L'association de l'utilisation des médias sociaux avec les comportements problématiques sur Internet permet-elle de prédire la procrastination académique des étudiants de premier cycle?

Résumé

Les chercheurs sont d'avis que l'attachement des étudiants aux médias sociaux peut avoir des conséquences négatives telles que le retardement de leurs travaux universitaires. Pourtant, la manière dont l'utilisation des médias sociaux est associée à la procrastination des étudiants dans le cadre universitaire est encore peu étudiée. Cette étude a permis de déterminer les voies par lesquelles l'utilisation des médias sociaux a prédit la procrastination académique des étudiants de premier cycle. L'échantillon était composé de 500 étudiants de première année de la faculté d'éducation de l'université Nnamdi Azikiwe, à Awka. L'analyse de pistes causales a été utilisée pour tester l'adéquation du modèle hypothétique et montrer la direction des relations entre les variables exogènes et endogènes. Les résultats ont montré que le modèle hypothétique s'ajuste de manière satisfaisante aux données de l'échantillon, et que la dépendance à Internet prédisait la procrastination académique plus que toute autre variable. L'utilisation des médias sociaux n'a pas eu d'effets directs significatifs sur la procrastination scolaire, mais a indirectement prédit de manière significative la procrastination académique par la dépendance à Internet. Cela implique que l'utilisation des médias sociaux ne peut pas conduire à la procrastination académique avant qu'elle ne devienne problématique.
